Official Portal & Helpline
1What Is the UP Scholarship Scheme?
If you're an SC, ST, OBC, Minority, or EWS student studying in Uttar Pradesh — the state government's scholarship scheme covers a large part of your education expenses. And it applies at every level: Class 9 all the way up to post-graduation and professional degrees.
The UP Pre Matric and Post Matric Scholarship is managed by the Social Welfare, Backward Class Welfare, and Minority Welfare departments through a single portal: scholarship.up.gov.in. Fresh registrations for 2026-27 open in July 2026. Last date: typically October–November 2026.
2Pre Matric vs Post Matric — Which Is For You?
| Scholarship Type | Who | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| Pre Matric | Class 9 & 10 students | Maintenance allowance + fees |
| Post Matric | Class 11, 12, graduation, PG, professional degrees | Higher allowance + full fee reimbursement |
Most students in professional courses (B.Tech, MBBS, LLB) get more under Post Matric because the scheme covers actual course fees paid to the institution — often ₹20,000–2 lakh per year.
3Income Limits by Category
| Category | Pre Matric Income Limit | Post Matric Income Limit |
|---|---|---|
| SC/ST | ₹1 lakh/year | ₹2.5 lakh/year |
| OBC | ₹2 lakh/year | ₹2 lakh/year |
| Minority | ₹2 lakh/year | ₹2 lakh/year |
| General-EWS | ₹2 lakh/year | ₹2 lakh/year |
Family income means total income of both parents combined, certified by the Lekhpal/SDM.
4Step-by-Step: How to Apply
- Open scholarship.up.gov.in in July 2026
- Click Student Registration → choose your category
- Register with Aadhaar and OTP
- Login → fill the application:
- Personal details (name, DOB, category)
- Academic details (institution, course, roll number)
- Income details (certificate number)
- Upload: Aadhaar, caste certificate, income certificate, marksheet, bank passbook, enrolment certificate
- Submit and take a hard-copy printout
- Get the printout verified by your institution's principal — this is mandatory
- Track your status on scholarship.up.gov.in
5Common Rejection Reasons — Avoid These
- Duplicate Aadhaar registration — one Aadhaar number, one application only
- Bank account not in student's name — the account must belong to the student, not the parent
- Outdated caste certificate — UP requires certificates issued within the last 3 years
- Mismatch in name or date of birth between Aadhaar and the application form
- Missing principal signature on the printout — this step is often skipped and causes rejection
6When Does the Money Come?
After application and institution verification, the scholarship is typically processed between December and March. Delays are common due to the volume of applications — over 50 lakh students apply every year in UP. Track your status regularly on the portal and respond to any correction request within the deadline.
