What is SSC JE?
SSC JE (Junior Engineer) is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission to recruit engineers at Group B (non-gazetted) level into central government departments. The main hiring departments are CPWD (Central Public Works Department), Military Engineering Services (MES), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), BSNL, and Doordarshan.
It is one of the few central government technical exams where a Diploma holder (not just degree engineer) can apply and get a gazetted-equivalent pay level posting.

Preparation Strategy
Paper I Engineering Section (100 marks): This is the deciding factor. Focus on 5–6 core topics that carry maximum weightage consistently — for Civil: Soil Mechanics, Structural Analysis, RCC; for Electrical: Electrical Machines, Power Systems; for Mechanical: Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics.
Reasoning (50 marks): Standard SSC level — Analogies, Coding-Decoding, Direction, Series, Blood Relations. Scoring and predictable.
General Awareness (50 marks): Current affairs (last 6 months), Science basics, History, Geography. Don't overthink this — 30 minutes daily on a current affairs app is enough.
Paper II Strategy: Deep technical preparation. Solve GATE-level problems for conceptual clarity even though SSC JE Paper II is below GATE level — it helps you answer faster and with confidence. Practice derivations and numerical problems.
