SSC GD Constable is the entry-level position in India's Central Armed Police Forces — the uniformed paramilitary services that guard borders, maintain internal security, and protect vital installations. The forces are BSF (Border Security Force), CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), CISF (Central Industrial Security Force), ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police), SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal), Assam Rifles, NIA (National Investigation Agency), and SSF (Special Security Force).
This is a 10th-pass-eligible government job with a real salary (not a stipend), full government benefits, and a structured career. If you want a uniformed career without waiting until graduation, SSC GD is the path.
The physical requirements are real — you'll serve in border areas, remote postings, and high-altitude terrain. Understand the lifestyle before you apply. Posting can be anywhere in India, including the far northeast, J&K, Ladakh, or central India's naxal-affected areas. The risk allowance exists because the risk is real.
| Force | Function | Posting Pattern |
|---|
| BSF | Border guarding with Bangladesh and Pakistan | Border areas, rural/remote |
| CRPF | Internal security, anti-naxal, VVIP security | All India |
| CISF | Airport security, nuclear/industrial security | Urban (airport-based mostly) |
| ITBP | India-China border, Himalayan terrain | High-altitude (Ladakh, Uttarakhand, HP) |
| SSB | India-Nepal and India-Bhutan border | Northeast, Bihar, UP border |
| Assam Rifles | Northeast India border and internal security | Northeast states |
| NIA | Counter-terrorism investigation support | HQ and field offices |
| SSF | Parliament and sensitive office security | Delhi-based mostly |
CISF is the most preferred choice for most candidates — city-based (airports, metro cities), AC working environment, no border deployment. Demand for CISF seats in merit lists is always higher than supply.
