Selection process

Four stages. All are qualifying, but only the CBT and Skill Test count toward merit.

Stage 1 — Computer Based Test (200 marks)

Objective MCQ exam on 5 and 6 September 2026. Five sections:

SectionWeightage
General Awareness~40 marks
English Language~40 marks
Numerical Ability~40 marks
Reasoning~40 marks
Post-specific Technical Knowledge~40 marks

The technical section is where you separate yourself. General Awareness, English, and Reasoning tests are standard fare. The technical section for Junior Assistant tests computer proficiency; for Stenographer, it tests shorthand knowledge; for Junior Programmer, it tests coding and DBMS basics.

Negative marking will be specified in the admit card. Assume 1/4 mark deducted per wrong answer unless the admit card says otherwise.

Stage 2 — Skill / Knowledge Test (100 marks)

Post-specific applied test:

  • Stenographer: Shorthand dictation at 80 wpm, transcription at 30 wpm on computer
  • Junior Programmer: Coding test plus computer proficiency
  • Junior Assistant: Typing test in Hindi or English, plus MS Office practical
  • Junior Accountant: Accounting practical
  • Deputy Director (Medical): Descriptive medical knowledge paper or interview panel review

Stage 3 — Document Verification

Combined merit from CBT plus Skill Test decides who is called for DV at NBEMS HQ, New Delhi. Bring originals: 10th and 12th marksheets, degree, PG certificate (if applicable), category certificate, medical council registration (for Deputy Director), and one valid photo ID.

Stage 4 — Medical examination

Standard central government medical fitness check. Once cleared, appointment letters are issued for posting at NBEMS HQ, New Delhi.

Should you apply?

Depends on your target post.

Junior Assistant — apply if:

  • You are 12th pass and comfortable with typing (Hindi or English)
  • You want a stable central government job in Delhi
  • ₹28,000 to ₹35,000 gross with pension and CGHS is acceptable as a starting salary
  • 39 vacancies is a decent number and gives a real chance

Stenographer — apply if:

  • You already have shorthand skill at 80 wpm dictation and 30 wpm transcription
  • Pay Level 7 (~₹65,000+ gross) is attractive for the effort involved

Junior Programmer or Junior Accountant — apply if:

  • You match the specific qualification (Computer Science degree or Commerce/Math bachelor)
  • You want a settled central government job over private sector churn

Deputy Director (Medical) — apply if:

  • You are a postgraduate medical qualifier with current registration
  • You want an administrative role over active clinical practice

The ₹1,770 fee is not trivial for a 12th pass candidate, but the post is genuinely well-paid for its qualification level. If you clear the CBT, the skill test is straightforward for candidates who have prepared.
