Preparation Strategy

6 Months Before Exam

Month 1–2: Build the Foundation

  • Start with NCERT books (Class 6–12) for Maths, Science, and History
  • Begin a Current Affairs habit — read one newspaper daily or use a current affairs app
  • Do 30 minutes of Reasoning practice every day without fail

Month 3–4: Go Deeper

  • Use Rakesh Yadav for Maths, Neetu Singh for English
  • Solve previous year papers of SSC CGL (at least last 5 years)
  • Make a short-notes booklet for GA and Current Affairs — this will save you in the last weeks

Month 5: Full Mock Tests

  • Take 3 full-length mock tests per week
  • Analyse every wrong answer — do not just count the score
  • Focus on speed: Tier 1 gives only 36 seconds per question

Month 6: Revision and Accuracy

  • No new topics — only revision
  • Aim for 150+ marks in Tier 1 mock tests
  • Lock in your attempt strategy (which sections to tackle first)

Tier 2 ExamNovember–December 2026

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Skipping mock tests — Reading alone is not enough. Speed and accuracy come from practice.
  • Ignoring GA — 25 marks in Tier 1 can make or break your rank. Do not neglect it.
  • Not reading the notification — Age limits, post preferences, and document requirements change. Always read the official notification fully.
  • Leaving the application too late — SSC servers crash near deadlines. Apply in week 1 of the application window.

Final Thoughts

SSC CGL is tough — lakhs of students appear every year for a few thousand seats. But it is absolutely crackable with consistent effort over 6 months. The syllabus is defined and does not change drastically. If you practice daily, revise smartly, and take mock tests seriously, you have a genuine shot.
